No grid power
Sites are off-grid or unreliable. Mains-dependent sensors simply cannot be deployed there.
Off-grid monitoring and control
NodeX is a solar-powered platform that monitors and controls remote sites with no mains power and no signal. One device for every measurement or control point, feeding a single dashboard.
The problem
Mines, farms and remote sites must monitor and control assets in real time. The places that need it most have no mains power and no reliable connectivity. Most IoT assumes both. It only watches and cannot act.
Sites are off-grid or unreliable. Mains-dependent sensors simply cannot be deployed there.
Cellular and fixed lines do not reach. Cloud-only devices go dark the moment the link drops.
Most IoT reports a number. It cannot switch a pump or shed a load, so problems are seen but never solved.
Every instrument has its own format and dashboard. Operators stitch the silos together by hand.
The solution
NodeX pairs self-contained hardware with a single cloud platform, so the same stack runs anywhere, on or off the grid.
Solar and battery power. Devices run for years with no mains and nothing external to install.
NodeX acts. It switches pumps, valves and loads autonomously at the edge, even when it is offline.
Every site and every vertical feeds one dashboard, with alarms, graphs and full history.
No one else combines off-grid autonomy, two-way control and a single cross-vertical platform.
How it works
Sensing and control logic run on the device and the gateway, so the loop stays closed at the edge. The cloud sits on top for dashboards, history and remote access.
Solar-powered field units measure level, particulate, power and more, then drive outputs.
Aggregates nodes and runs control logic locally. Decisions happen at the edge in real time.
Customisable dashboards, alarms, graphs and history across every site and every vertical.
Where NodeX works
The same stack serves three very different operations, each with its own hard saving and its own specialist partner on the ground.
Dust compliance
Real-time PM2.5 and PM10 with meteorology for legally mandated dust monitoring. Built for the new National Dust Control Regulations, where compliance is not optional.
Deployed with Eco Elementum
Energy management
Controls peak versus off-peak power across stores, cutting the demand charge and the monthly consumption. Built to roll out store by store across a chain.
Deployed with Energyrite
Water control
Monitors reservoir levels and controls pumps and valves off-grid, for steady month-on-month savings on water and energy across irrigated and livestock farms.
Deployed with Water & Pumping Solutions
These three markets are where we are deployed today. The same off-grid platform fits any measurement or control point across many more industries.
What NodeX measures and controls
Configure a single NodeX for every monitoring or control point. The hardware adapts to the job in front of it.
Monitor reservoir levels and switch pumps when levels run low. Drive valves from soil-moisture sensors, ideal for distributing water across a large area.
Monitor fridges or rooms and regulate cooling. Run a fully customisable cold-chain solution or trigger spray cooling from fruit and tree temperature in an orchard.
Gate, door and movement triggers at remote sites, with internal GPS and accelerometer tracking for mobile assets. Get an instant alert for unauthorised access or for sudden movement where you are not watching.
Measure electricity through current transformers or water through flow meters. Connect to an existing meter or count anything from animals to vehicles through a gate.
Set a threshold on any input and NodeX raises the alarm before a problem escalates. Rising water levels, flooding, tank overflow or any limit being breached, pushed straight to your phone.
Pair NodeX with our weather station for rain, wind speed and direction, ambient temperature, barometric pressure and lightning pre-warning detection.
Always connected
A versatile wireless enabler on the road, in a factory or out in the open field where there is little or no mobile reception.
Build your own LoRa mesh in areas with little or no internet. Connect up to 500 NodeX devices to a single NodeX Gateway.
Use Wi-Fi inside buildings or factories. Every NodeX connects to your router and sends data straight to the cloud database.
Use a 2G or NB-IoT connection for devices on the move or spaced more than 2km apart. Data goes directly over the mobile network to the cloud.
The NodeX Gateway links up to 500 NodeX devices over LoRa. It runs a standalone local database for data storage and an edge processing engine for true offline processing and autonomy. The moment internet is available it duplicates everything to the cloud for access from anywhere.
Engineered in South Africa
Recon designs the NodeX hardware, firmware and platform in-house. Founder and lead engineer Henro Ritchie brings twenty years in electronic design and systems integration. Our manufacturing partner MVC5 handles assembly, testing and first-line support. Specialist distributors deploy and back every install in each market. Each unit is engineered, built and supported here in South Africa.
